We recently bought a house that had substantial knob and tube and also required rewiring of both kitchens and a garage. We also decided to make some substantial upgrades including upgrading to 200amp service, adding a 50amp sub panel circuit to the garage, adding Cat 6 internet cables to the second floor and basement, and having the electrical panel moved to a better location within the house.
